About Surf 2 Serve
Surf2Serve is a community outreach organization created initially to provide quality and compassionate mentorship to those kids and families living at the Kakaako Next Step Shelter. Since then, Surf2Serve has expanded its outreach to include activities and events to other disadvantaged groups. The goals are to provide a healthy environment to build confidence and skills to encourage successful and positive growth. We believe in building a sense of family between our members and kids that we work with. We welcome those who are interested in helping us make a positive impact by empowering kids through activities, friendship and community service. Please contact us to learn more. We would be happy to hear from you!
Our Vision
Surf2Serve commits to making a life long impact on those lives we have been given the responsibility and privilege to help. We see a primary and crucial need for the kids at the shelter to have strong and supportive relationships.
The program would allow Dane Kealoha, a former World Champion surfer along with a trained and caring team offer weekly surf lessons combined with education on the sport of surfing, Hawaiian history and oceanography to the kids.
As we cultivate our relationships with the families through genuinely caring about their lives and assisting in their basic daily needs we want to work toward these essential goals:
· Edify the kids by reaffirming their value and worth as young people
· Build self-worth and dignity for themselves
· Care for and respect each other
· Understand their potential to be a significant person
By offering ongoing morale support and life-affirming resources we envision these kids to become proactive positive citizens.
Eventually and through our ongoing efforts we would like to work with the kids beyond the water and help them to have dreams and aspirations.
As we foster strong relationships with them we can help guide and articulate them in becoming kids that know they are important and have an attainable promising future ahead of them.
We would also like to create a gigantic photo album as we journey through the history of their lives. This storybook would be a reminder and model too them that people truly care about them, that they matter to us, and when we said we’d walk this road with them we did.
